Teddy Cat Cafe, originally named Tabby Cat Cafe (both of which are an ode to Founder Sarah Thomas’ own little orange friend), will open at 39 E Florida Ave Denver, CO 80210 in mid-to-late September.
The idea for Thomas’ cat cafe grew legs during the pandemic when she began volunteering at the Denver Animal hospital. Finding absolute joy in the act, Thomas soon quit her day job and began the hunt for the perfect location. Despite lots of confusion and heartache (Thomas’ best friend and main supporter Paige Harris passed away before the cafe opened; Harris had been excited to work at Teddy’s), Thomas persevered.
Thomas has plans to charge an entry fee of $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, military personnel, and ages 6 through 17, according to the Denver Post. Additionally, Thomas will fill the venue with cats she’s fostered from the Denver Animal Hospital, mostly those that are “shy, older, under-socialized, bonded pairs needing to be adopted together, and cats who have been at the shelter the longest.”
“The ultimate goal of her space is to take pressure off the shelter and increase the number of cats that are adopted in the city.”
