On August 28, 2022, Hot-Chick-A-Latte (4736 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80220) semi-permanently closed its doors after only a few short years in business.
Owner Christina Stephens acquired the business in 2019 from its previous owner Troy Jensen who operated the shop from 2010-2018. Stephens had worked at Hot Chick before eventually becoming its owner but recalls being unhappy with the beauty standards put in place there. That’s why Stephens made it their mission to diversify the java joint, employing baristxs of all shapes, sizes, and colors, as well as making space for transgender and non-binary employees.
Despite receiving immense support from the LGBTQ+ community and a boost in business during BLM’s peak, the pandemic took its toll on Hot-Chick-A-Latte. Additionally, due to technicalities associated with COVID-19 assistance, Stephens was unable to obtain the financial aid needed to keep the place up and running. Sadly, Stephens had no choice but to close up shop.
Fortunately, however, Stephens recently told What Now Denver, “We are hoping to open again within the next few years. We are looking at maybe [implementing] a mobile location, but we aren’t positive what the future holds. Currently, we will still be roasting coffee and are working on a platform for that until we make a real plan for a [brick-and-mortar] again.”
Additionally, Stephens reported that Hot-Chick-A-Latte’s time at the Colfax Ave. location has officially ended as a new coffee shop will soon be taking over. Details regarding the incoming establishment are forthcoming.
No one wants to see that crap stick with the hot chicks and you’ll be successful
