Split Lip, a concept owned by Adam Branz from Ultreia, is getting ready to move into Number Thirty Eight at 3560 Chestnut Place.
The idea for Split Lip came during the pandemic, when Branz came together with fellow partners Jessica Richter and David Wright to bring forth the menu that would eventually become the fried chicken and burger joint it’s become.
Branz told Westword, “I’m a huge fan of the word ‘craveable,’ and especially when you’re down, like we all were, craveable dishes just kind of pop back into your mind.”
The trio started out with popups at places like Diebolt Brewing, as well as trying out their “slugburger” on the Ultreia patio on Thursdays.
The website for Split Lip says it is “inspired by a city full of transplants” and it “highlights super-regional food alongside the stories, secrets and legends these dishes hold.”
The menu will offer snacks like “koolickles,” which is described as “koolaid marinated pickles,” as well as their signature hot chicken sandwich and an array of burgers, including the above-mentioned slugburger that the website describes as “gorilla biscuits meets Dolly Parton.”
Split Lip is set to join the lineup at Number Thirty Eight by the end of September 2021.
