The Flyway Denver, a 32-acre retail town center covering an estimated 223,000 square feet of space, is in the works to open at the corners of Memphis Street & Green Valley Ranch Blvd by the fall of 2022.
What Now Denver spoke with a member of the development and community outreach, Nora Kimball, who confirmed that the new shopping center would be anchored by Costco.
“It’s moving along,” she said. “It’s been in the works for a few years because we had to deal with some rezoning issues, as our original location didn’t allow for any grocery stores.”
Although The Flyway will be anchored by Costco and include a Costco store, Kimball says they’ll also have plenty of retail shops, restaurants, a center plaza, and a bike path with access to the nearby Peña Trail.
“This project has been in the works for about four years already,” said Kimball. “Besides some zoning issues, we also had to wait for an investment approval of $9.5 million from the City of Denver before we could move forward.”
The Far Northeast Area where The Flyway will live has been a food desert up until now, and will add between 4-600 new and diverse jobs for the region. Costco, in particular, has committed to hiring up to 200 employees with a starting pay of $24/hour at full time, with employees receiving medical and vacation benefits.
The construction will start later this year to allow for the third-quarter 2022 opening. They are currently leasing prospective retailers and restaurants. Those interested can contact The Flyway through their website.
