Jumpin’ Java in Downtown Grand Haven closed during the pandemic in December 2022. Over a year and a half later, this Grand Haven favorite is returning to its former address at 215 Washington Ave, and it is anticipated to reopen by the end of January.

Jumpin’ Java will continue to be owned by its original owner, Erin Lyons. Lyons turned her focus to a new concept called Kenzie’s Be Café, which led to her closing the doors for Jumpin’ Java. While Lyons believed it was the right decision at the time, she said she’d always regretted shutting the doors. Therefore, the reopening was an exciting new chapter for Lyons and the coffee house’s loyal customers.

After Jumpin’ Java had closed, the building on Washington Avenue was briefly occupied by an extreme milkshake shop, Bad Habit, which closed permanently in October 2023. This prompted the opportunity to bring Jumpin’ Java back to the community.

“The decor will be a little different, but will still have the same charm Jumpin’ Java always had. There will be new menu items, both food and drinks, along with many of the original favorites. There will be new management, and some of your old familiar faces are coming back,” Lyons told What Now Detroit via email.

Upon reopening, Larry Alexander, who served as manager at Jumpin’ Java from 2012 to 2014, will oversee all operations as the new General Manager. Lyons will continue to own the business while maintaining her role as executive director of Kenzie’s Be Café.
