A sign for an upcoming Mexican restaurant, Sabor Street Tacos, has been seen in Burton for quite a while. Last week, a menu was posted outside the restaurant, potentially indicating Sabor to be open very soon. Sabor is located at 4021 E Atherton Rd, which was previously occupied by El Popo Loco, a taco restaurant that closed at the beginning of this year.

Sabor has been under construction for the past few months, although no specific opening date has been announced. The building required significant exterior and interior work with major updates, which prolonged the permitting and plan approval process. However, the project is finally near completion.

The new Mexican joint will serve more than street tacos. The menu includes all the Mexican classics, including burritos, corn tacos, flautas, birria tacos, milanesa, tamales, and more. Sabor will also have a kid’s menu featuring chicken tenders and fries, cheese quesadilla with beans and rice, and more. “You must try our Sopes, Tortas, and Enchiladas,” said Ayala in an email.

Records indicate Sabor was owned and operated by Gregorio Leon Ayala. The restaurant will have a dine-in area and a drive thru window and is anticipated to open in January 2024.

“I have other [restaurants in other] locations, but I wanted to open one that has food from the streets of Mexico,” said Ayala.
