Permits have been filed for a new eatery called Souled Out Soul Food at 26643 W Huron River Dr in Flat Rock. The business is currently waiting on the city of Flat Rock to approve its kitchen and bar buildout.

Wife-and-husband duo Blonnie and Miller Taylor are behind the upcoming restaurant. The couple brings their 20+ years of hospitality and catering experience to the new restaurant and is ready to bring authentic southern food to the neighborhood. “We will be known for our smoked meats, gumbo greens, shrimp and grits, and our soul rolls,” said Taylor. The restaurant will also serve alcoholic beverages. A liquor license transfer can be found in the MLSS database.

Located close to The Junction and Uptown Flat Rock, the new restaurant will be adding some much-needed diversity to the area. When asked about her inspiration behind the concept, Taylor mentioned her “desire to bring a southern comfort food flare to the downriver area,” adding that “it’s exactly what is needed” in the community.

Taylor told What Now Detroit via email that, ideally, she hopes to open in mid-to-late November, although a December opening might be more likely the case.
