East African dishes are coming to the east suburb of Lansing later this year.
From recent Facebook conversations, a second Altu’s Ethiopian Cuisine & Bar location is coming to 4738 Central Park Drive in Okemos. The restaurant has been in East Lansing at 1312 East Michigan Avenue since 2013, and it marks the company’s next U.S. expansion. An opening date has not yet been announced.
The business calls themselves the “best Ethiopian restaurant in East Lansing. Known for serving classic Ethiopian plates, they serve beef stews, chicken stews and combos with spicy pinto beans. Their spicy beef stew is served with berbere onion sauce.
Altu Tadesse started Altu’s and opened the restaurant in East Lansing in 1996. Now, Gutu Lechna carries on the name as he also has a passion for Ethiopian food. Coming to the U.S. from Kenya, he is helping build the business for the Lansing area.
Altu’s is being built in between Moka & Co and a Bank of America location on the north side of Grand Rive Avenue. This is a busy area of Okemos, with restaurants including Panera Bread, Anna’s House and Cottage Inn Pizza nearby.
The business’s social media has remained relatively quiet about the new Okemos location. An official announcement on the opening date is expected in the next week or two.
