Residents of Wayland are curious about a new Mexican eatery planned near Gun Lake.

Conversations are happening online about the new Azul Agave Mexican restaurant opening at 12850 M-179, Suite 2 in Wayland. This is the location of the former Thirsty Buddy. Right now, there is no word on the opening except that the restaurant is under construction.

“Authentic Mexican flavors, handcrafted margaritas and a taste of tradition,” says the description on their Facebook page. No official menu has been posted.

The restaurant is not yet listed online, but it is going in the same plaza as the Curley Cone ice cream shop. A Huntington Bank ATM is also at the building, along with pickleball courts on the side. The address is just north of Gun Lake, and 10 minutes from downtown Wayland.

Per recent social media posts, tacos, pastries and margaritas will be served at the restaurant. It comes from Maricela Melendez, the owner of El Burrito Feliz in Saugatuck at 322 Culver Street. When contacted, Melendez did not yet respond for comment.

More information on the restaurant can be found on Azul Agave’s Facebook page.
