Barkside, a coffeehouse and beer garden with an off-leash dog park, plus trivia nights, is opening a new location in Southfield at 15640 W. 11 Mile.
Previously, What Now Detroit reported on Barkside’s debut in Detroit’s West Village at 7960 Kercheval Avenue. The company is now expanding to a second location near Greenfield, which will feature 6,000 square feet of indoor off-leash play and an additional 7,000 square feet of outdoor yard, according to the Detroit News. For humans, Barkside will feature a full bar in the evening and coffee options in the morning. Customers can also expect Wi-Fi, televisions, and community events like trivia night.
The new Barkside is expected to open in Summer 2025, bringing together the puppy community even more with the help of craft cocktails and craft beer. Some rules must be followed, such as dogs must be up-to-date on several shots and vaccinations and be spayed or neutered if they’re a year or older. To help become a more inclusive site for all dogs, the company also offers dog-specific programming like puppy training and breed meet-ups. Those with a membership at Barkside Detroit can use it at Barkside Southfield. Memberships are $40 a month or $375 a year; day passes are also available.
“Our vision for Barkside has always been about more than just a bar or a dog park. It’s about creating a place where dog lovers and dogs can safely socialize, unwind, and have fun,” founders Cody Williams and David Oh said in a statement. They are Michigan State University graduates and dog owners. Williams is a former project manager at Rocket Mortgage, and Oh has worked in corporate finance. Southfield’s central location makes it the perfect spot to bring Barkside’s unique concept and strong sense of community to even more Metro Detroit dog lovers.”
