A Brooklyn-based barbecue restaurant has plans for a new location south of the city’s downtown.
PB&J’s BBQ recently took to social media to announce their new restaurant coming to 124 Irwin Street. This will be a larger space, replacing their location at Callaghan’s Cafe. Owner Berton McLain told What Now Detroit the tentative opening date is Dec. 5.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to our home inside Callaghan’s Cafe, and today we look ahead with full hearts and smoky hands!” Berton said in a recent Facebook post.
The barbecue has been stacking up awards since 2012 when their Jackson-based food cart opened. Options like half-pound brisket and a half-rack of ribs are favorites. They also serve combo plates, with a 6-ounce meat and a side like mac and cheese or slaw.
Their current barbecue, inside Callaghan’s Coffee Cafe, also neighbors Arctic Sno Shaved Ice. The last day for this location was on Oct. 26, and the business was open from 11 a.m. to sell out. Now, all the efforts from staff are going into the new brick-and-mortar restaurant.
Their new building is off of S Main Street behind Hometown Pizza. Brooklyn is just over an hour away from Detroit and southeast of Jackson.
McLain will be providing more information on the opening on the PB&J’s BBQ Facebook page.
