The historic beer hall that has changed ownership will soon be opening a biergarten next month.
Dakota Inn Rathskeller recently experienced a change after longtime owner Karl Kurz gave the keys to local funeral director Paddy Lynch. Kurz’s family had owned the German bar since 1933, and he decided it was time to retire after many years. While the Greenfield Park space has not closed down, it will be introducing the new biergarten in July, with no word on the wine bar.
“The Dakota is just a beautiful gem of a place,” Lynch told What Now Detroit.
As it is a German food food, they serve much of the cuisine like bavarian soft warmed pretzel, sauerkraut, spatzle, bavarian bratwurst, schnitze and beef rouladen. The beer, of course, is ever-flowing and will be on tap throughout the space.
Lynch is working on getting the umbrellas and tables set up for the biergarten. Along with the biergarten and wine bar, Lynch is planning a gift shop, specialty market and overnight accommodations, according to an article from The Detroit News.
“We want it to be a destination spot,” Lynch said.
The space also hosts music events, mainly on the piano by local players. They have been also known to host traditional German dancers over the years.
