California-based fast-casual chain Dave’s Hot Chicken is opening its first Lansing location in East Lansing at 194 Albert Ave., right below housing complex Newman Lofts. The East Lansing location will be the sixth Dave’s Hot Chicken in Michigan. Construction is expected to complete in December and the restaurant is anticipated to open at the beginning of 2024.
Like all other Dave’s Hot Chicken locations in Michigan, the East Lansing location will also be managed by multi-unit franchise operator Hot North Chicken, L.L.C. The company is led by CEO Michael Ansley, an experienced former franchisee for Buffalo Wild Wings and current CEO of Beggar Dave’s, a restaurant chain with 26 locations.
Hot North Chicken opened its first Dave’s Hot Chicken in Michigan in October 2021 and currently owns locations in Warren, Troy, Southfield, Howell, and Dearborn. The East Lansing location was a perfect addition to the portfolio given its close proximity to Michigan State University’s campus. The 2,600-square-foot storefront can seat approximately 40 people, although the majority of the business is expected to be delivery and carryout. The East Lansing location expects to hire 35 to 55 employees.
The construction for the restaurant is nearly complete and the company expects to open somewhere in January 2024. The company may also be looking for a new location in West Lansing in the near future.
