Stafford’s Hospitality, along with its portfolio of three beloved restaurants and three hotels in the Petoskey area is being acquired by Grosse Pointe Farms couple Jon and Lauren Cotton. The acquired restaurants include Noggin Room Pub, Weathervane Restaurant, and Pier Restaurant. The three hotels are the Perry Hotel, Crooked River Lodge, and Bay View Inn. The purchase is anticipated to be completed in January 2024.

“As a longtime resident of Michigan, I have dined and stayed in these historic establishments many times, and know what each of them mean not only to our state, but also, to their respective communities,” Jon Cotton said in a statement. “We will be dedicated to maintain the legacy of Stafford’s Hospitality and committed to retain their employees who have played such a key role in the success of these properties.”

Cotton also currently serves as CEO for ApexHealth, a Grosse Pointe Medicare Advantage plan that serves areas North Carolina and South Carolina. Cotton has selected Troy-based Hotel Investment Services, Inc (HIS) as his Managing Partner to oversee the operation of the businesses in the portfolio. HIS also aided in the management and operation of Hotel Iroquois on Mackinac Island, which Cotton acquired in 2020.

The parties expect to finalize the transaction in early January of next year, according to a statement. Cotton and the HIS team are planning renovations for the Stafford’s Hospitality portfolio.
