Drifter Coffee, which started out on wheels as a mobile coffee truck, is now moving into a much larger space at 503 Livernois Street in Ferndale.

Drifter will eventually relocate to the two-story 4,500-square-foot space, though the Metro Times reported that it will remain open at its original location at 770 Woodward Heights through the summer. Construction on the new building is expected to start this month.

The company announced the move on Instagram, with a caption that said that the building will “look a lot different when the work is done.”

Founder and owner Alleah Webb has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for the project, writing: “We’ve outgrown our current building and we’re so excited to share that we’ve found a new bigger space in West Ferndale. The building needs work and we are a small business with no investors, so we are leaning on the community to help support creating a beautiful, lively, and welcoming space.”

The business has already installed an elevator lift to make the second floor of the new space more accessible, adding that most of the seating as well as space for events will be on the top floor. Drifter will also have a new coffee bar that is twice the size of their current one, along with a larger menu and a full bakery.

Webb opened Drifter as a mobile service in 2015, serving tea and coffee, before moving into her first brick and mortar in 2018.
