The owner of a famous donut shop is expanding with a new location south of the flagship shop.
It is being reported Dutch Girl Donuts will be opening a second location at 2820 E Grand Boulevard this spring. This is the company’s first major expansion in the city. Owner Paddy Lynch told What Now Detroit he is hoping to open the new spot May 1.
The Original Dutch Girl Donuts shop at 19000 Woodward Avenue opened back in 1947, owned by locals Gene and Lauren Timmer. After the location closed in 2021, Lynch bought the business in May 2024 and reopened it with 24-hour service.
This is not Lynch’s only culinary project as he reopened the Dakota Inn German restaurant at 17324 John R Street in Greenfield Park. He has put a lot of work into the space, building a beer garden and wine bar for guests to enjoy. Lynch is also a funeral director in the area.
The shop also serves coffee, but any kind of donut option one desires is served, including glazed, chocolate-covered, raspberry-filled, and donut holes. Their portions range from single donuts to a dozen, and four donut holes to two dozen. Toppings like sprinkles, powdered sugar, Oreos and M&M’s can be added.
Dutch Girl Donuts will be on the north side of E Grand Boulevard at the entrance to Melrose Street. The address is also home to Howrani Studios photography business, which will stay while the donut shop is open. Sepia Coffee and the Vault of Midnight comic book store are across the street.
Currently, the Woodward Avenue shop opens at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and stays open until 6 p.m. on Sundays, or when the donuts sell out. For more information on the new Dutch Girl Donuts location, visit their Instagram @dutchgirldetroit.
