Downriver taco and burrito lovers will soon have a new go-to cantina for their meat-and-cheese-infused fixes.

A pair of restaurant owners plan to open Chico’s Burritos, a carry-out taqueria that specializes in Mexican street cuisine at 27419 Warren Road in Garden City.

The burrito outpost is the conception of owner-operator Mohamad-Ali Ouza and his business partner Abraham Ouza. The pair already have a Chico’s Burritos location up and running about nine miles away at 3389 Greenfield Road in Dearborn.

Their Garden City rendition is taking root in an abandoned Metro PCS phone store across the street from DeLuca’s Restaurant at the busy intersection of Warren and Inkster roads.

Garden City planning officials okayed the site plan March 9 and council members unanimously approved the owners’ rezoning request 11 days later.

The Ouza duo intend to open the 1,500 square-foot restaurant before the summer. They plan to sandblast the brick exterior and have an artist’s mural painted one side of the building. A full overhaul is slated for the interior.

The menu will feature an assortment of street and keto birria tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, crunch wraps, fritas, Mexican smash burgers, chips & salsa, burrito bowls and desserts like churro and tres leches cake.

The Ouzas said they will cater to first responders. The Garden City Hospital is half-mile south and Abraham Ouza is a Dearborn police officer who was sworn in last year.

“We’re just trying to bring something good to the community,” Mohamad-Ali Ouza told planning board members during the March 9 meeting. “We’re specializing in Mexican street food, so it’s bringing something different to the neighborhood.”
