A gourmet toast and juice bar is bringing a fresh, healthy twist to downtown Detroit this fall.

Toastique is set to open at 89 Monroe St., taking over the former Ezelli Hair Salon space.

“We’re just excited to bring healthy options to Detroit,” Owner Zeinab Ballout told What Now Detroit. “A lot of people work in Detroit. The buildings are pretty much filled with offices so we’re excited to bring this to everybody.”

With help from her brother and five sisters—including one who specializes in coffee and will assist with making drinks and smoothies—Ballout hopes to promote the café downtown by offering samples and expanding its presence.

While the shop will have indoor seating, Ballout also hopes to secure a permit for outdoor dining during the warmer months.

The cafe’s menu features gourmet toast options such as the Avocado Smash, Smoked Salmon and Tuscan Tuna. Guests can also enjoy acai bowls topped with fresh fruit and a signature house-blend granola made with almonds and walnuts. For lighter fare, Toastique offers cold-pressed juices, smoothies, wellness shots and iced collagen lattes.

For those on a health journey, juicing at home can be time-consuming and challenging. Ballout is excited to offer fresh, in-store options and looks forward to introducing more people to cold-pressed drinks.

“Whether you notice it or not, you eat with your eyes first and we are really taking on that concept. Everything on our menu, whether it be toast or a smoothie or an acai bowl, will be almost like a piece of art,” founder Brianna Keefe said via the website.

Founded in 2018 in Washington, D.C., Toastique has expanded across the country, with several new locations in development.

The Detroit cafe will mark the brand’s second location in Michigan, following its Ann Arbor debut in 2024.

An official opening date has not been announced, but Ballout hopes to open by September.
