The restaurant that was originally set to be a brewery is coming to the suburb’s downtown soon.
Staff of Great Dane Restaurant have taken to social media to announce the new spot opening at 112 S Main Street. It is set to bring steaks and melt sandwich options to the area. Owner Michael Dimmer told What Now Detroit he is hoping to open before Thanksgiving.
Initially, the location was going to be a franchised Voodoo Brewing restaurant, a chain out of Pennsylvania. Following a change in concept, Dimmer decided to open a restaurant partly named after his son Dane. It has been a long process to get the new spot opened.
“It’s been over two years in the making,” Dimmer said.
Staff are making the final tweaks to the menu, which will feature steaks, rib eye, chicken thighs, short rib ragu and brisket. Melt sandwiches, burgers and pizza are planned as well. As the restaurant is also a bar, beers on tap and cocktails can be expected.
The new restaurant will be near the corner of S Main Street and W 11 Mile Road, next to Leo’s Coney Island. This is a developing suburb, as What Now Detroit recently covered Bella Limone opening closeby at 100 S Main Street.
Dimmer said he is hoping to open by Thanksgiving as that weekend will draw many to the downtown area. It is taking over the former Blaze Pizza space, which became a destination with outdoor seating. More updates will be posted on their Instagram @great_dane_restaurant.
