Owner Kenny Shaska is laying the groundwork for his newest shop.
Ferndale’s Honey Dirt Coffee has a new location in store at 359 Livernois this year. This will be larger than their space inside Rust Belt Market at 22801 Woodward Avenue which opened in 2024. Shaska has not yet released an opening date.
The coffee shop has become a destination for those shopping in the Rust Belt Market the last two years. An announcement for the new location came from the Downtown Ferndale Instagram page, calling it a “leveling up” for the coffee company.
“We can’t wait to see Teddy and the Honey Dirt team bring their vibes, coffee, and community spirit to a brand new home,” said the post.
Coffees sold range from cortados, to espressos to cappuccinos. Alternatives include teas, chais, matchas and hot chocolate, with iced or hot options available. Coffee bags are sold at the location and online.
The new Honey Dirt cafe will be on the west side of the road, sharing space with Not Sorry Goods clothing store. This is just south of Ferndale’s downtown, near Ashe Coffee and Ferndale Project brewery. The building has a garage door in front, and now, a “coming soon” sign is up.
In the most recent update on the space, work is being done to completely remodel the interior. There are remnants of a bar top, and the inside will have high ceilings and plenty of space for seating.
“I wasn’t 100% sure how I was ever going to breathe life into this warehouse but I felt drawn to the possibility of what it could be,” Shaska said in the post.
Shaska is very involved with the Detroit coffee scene as he also opened Post Cafe at 14500 Kercheval Avenue. He will be providing more updates on construction and the opening date on Honey Dirt’s Instagram page.
