An upscale and sober dining experience with the vibes of the 1920s is coming to Beer City USA.
A new jazz cafe and restaurant called Cafe Jazzy Rose is in the works for 44 Ionia Avenue in downtown Grand Rapids. This is at the base of the Dwelling Place 50 Weston apartment building. Owner and founder Joseff VanHorn is hoping to open the new location the first week of January.
VanHorn and co-owner Ben Kaja have been planning the restaurant since October. It will serve low-carb, healthy and quick dinner options, taking inspiration from locations like New Orleans and Chicago. A few items include fresh fish entrees, shrimp and grits and smoked meats.
“We’re excited to get it up and running,” VanHorn said.
The cafe will be a first of its kind in the area, serving “spirit-free” drinks including beer, wine and liquors. Kava cocktails and botanical elixirs are other drink options to “relax or invigorate,” according to their website.
VanHorn has served celebrities who have come to Grand Rapids in the past including Bruce Willis, 50 Cent and Ice Cube. He also runs a catering service called YoChef’s Catering, serving lunch items like salads and wraps, deli sandwiches and many different entrees like fettuccine alfredo. YoChef’s Cafe is also in Grand Rapids at 34 44th Street SE.
