A Canadian coffee and restaurant chain is once again spilling across the Detroit River to plant its beans in South Michigan soils.
Tim Hortons, a multinational franchise headquartered in Toronto, will soon have a new shop at 3784 S. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, according to site plans recently approved by planning officials in the Oakland County suburb.
Elie Damouni will spearhead the effort to open the 1,600 square-foot coffee shop and drive through at the Gateway II commercial property next door to a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott hotel. He said the grand opening for the new location will be May 8.
Tim Hortons already has a deep presence in Michigan with 205 locations in over 100 cities and townships across the state, according to its website.
The new store will represent Tim Hortons’ fourth coffee and bake shop in Rochester Hills. A full-service café already exists about three miles north on the Rochester Road corridor. Another is situated in a gas station convenience store along Walton Boulevard, while the third anchors a strip mall along Crooks Road on the city’s south end.
Damouni is part of an ownership team that has previously operated at least 10 different Tim Hortons in Port Huron, Clinton Township, Shelby Township, Owosso, Burton, Macomb, Marysville, Grand Blanc and Clio, franchising documents indicate.
Property owners signed a leasing agreement that kicks in this October, leasing records show. The city’s planning commission approved site plans for the coffee shop in March.
Tim Hortons specializes in coffee, doughnuts and other fast-food items. It serves as Canada’s biggest quick-service chain with well over 5,000 restaurants in at least 15 countries worldwide.
