An Indian restaurant that reopened in Ann Arbor after a devastating fire last year is also planning on a second location. It appears Madras Masala is still working on opening up at 1143 Broadway St. The space was previously occupied by another Indian restaurant, FOODS OF INDIA.
News about a second Madras Masala was initially reported by multiple outlets last December. Gopal Ramanujam, co-owner of Madras Masala, initially hoped to open the second location this March, but the project has been delayed. Ramanujam said in an MLive coverage that while the second space “is a bit smaller than Packard Street,” he “plans to offer most of the restaurant’s menu regardless.”
As of January, 2024, FOODS OF INDIA relocated to 1797 Washtenaw Ave in Ypsilanti. Calls made to Ramanujam were unanswered and no updated opening timeframe is available at the moment. Mandras Masala would be joining other confirmed tenants at the newly upgraded retail center on Broadway Street, including Plate Sushi & Chicken, Arbor Party Store, Broadway Cafe and Cottage Inn Pizza.
