A new major project is coming to the recently developed harbor in the city.

Mahogany Bay is a new development opening on the St. Clair River at 3592 Military Street on the city’s south side. This will have three dining spaces including one for private events. The restaurant’s owner’s consultant Casey Harris told What Now Detroit there is not yet an opening date as the team is starting work on the floor plan.

Conversations have been happening online in the last week as ground was recently broken for the project. From conceptual pictures, the space will be two floors with multiple rooms. Harris said the “chef casual” space will seat 120 people, another casual area will be able to seat 60 with more outdoor seating, and the private event space can seat 200 inside.

“The menus will have a touch that will hit all age groups and all price points,” Harris said. All menus will be released at a later date.

Construction on the new harbor on the St. Clair River started in summer 2023, replacing the former Gibraltar building. At the time, the construction team planned to have a restaurant at the site, but there was no confirmed tenant.

The multi-level facility will be right on the water off of Military Street, close to the South Park Scenic Turnabout. Bars like Plat 1 Public House and City Limits Tavern are within walking distance. This is a scenic area as it has 450 feet of water frontage, and many will be able to park their boats at the dock and eat at the space.

As it is early in the development process, no social media or website have been set up for the restaurant as of yet.
