A new restaurant is coming to Wyandotte.

The Auburn Taverna is planned for 118 Sycamore Street, Detroit Free Press reported.

The new restaurant comes from Fotini Callis, whose husband Kostas Callis operates the temporarily-closed Auburn Cafe, located in Ecorse at 3520 W Jefferson Avenue.

Auburn Cafe is a longtime family-owned Greek restaurant known for specialties like lamb chops, salads, gyros, dips and more. It is currently closed after sustaining damage from a January fire, and they are working to reopen the 44-year-old restaurant. (You can contribute to the GoFundMe fundraising campaign here.)

The Auburn Taverna is going to be inspired by the flavors and atmosphere of Auburn Cafe, but with some new twists. It is targeting a summer 2025 opening.

The new restaurant is going into the space on Sycamore Street formerly occupied by Bobcat Bonnie’s. Just west of the Detroit River, it is between the Provisions Wyandotte event space and the Mexican street food restaurant Taco Bros.
