A “fine-dive” bar named The Foolery is confirmed to replace Wahlburger inside Residence Inn by Marriott at 10 Ionia Ave. NW. in Grand Rapids. Given the turnkey nature of the space, The Foolery is aiming to open by the end of the year.
The Foolery is operated by a familiar name. Spencer Raymond, the mastermind behind the popular Social Misfits on the ground floor of the hotel, shared that the new concept will serve Detroit-style pizza. The menu will also have handhelds, shareables, and pasties, an item with unique sentimental value to Raymond. Beverage options will include craft cocktails and sixteen taps featuring various local craft beers. The bar and restaurant will offer all-day dining.
The Foolery will occupy approximately 3,500 square feet. The space, which already came with kitchen equipment, is undergoing interior moderation under the guidance of Oakland Park, Fla.-based interior designer Casa Conde & Associates to provide cozy, upscale experience while manifesting Raymond’s signature eclectic restaurant feel.
“When people think ‘dive bar,’ it’s dingy and dark,” said Megan Seeley, brand marketing manager for Misfit Joints. “We want to add more luxurious elements.”
