As Starbucks leaves its shop in east Dearborn, a new coffee spot is coming to the area.
Detroit Free Press recently reported on a new Moka & Co location coming to 12921 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn. This is replacing a Starbucks that closed as of Aug. 24. The new Yemeni coffee spot will also use the drive-thru window, and it is going to be opening in the fall.
This Starbucks has been in Dearborn for almost 16 years. It marks the newest expansion project from Moka & Co which has locations in Detroit, Ann Arbor, East Lansing and Okemos. The company also has a presence in Arizona and New York, with future locations coming to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas.
The building is right in front of Cinnabon and Auntie Anne’s at the corner of Oatman Boulevard. The timeline of construction has not been confirmed, but work is expected to be done in the interior soon.
When What Now Detroit spoke with Numan Ali, CEO of Moka & Co, he said the company has not signed the deal for the building, but that is expected in a couple weeks. It will feature many of their signature drinks like the iced pistachio latte, iced moka spice latte, Adeni chai and refreshers. There are also frozen drinks and matcha lattes at cafes around the country.
According to Ali, this will be a franchised location. For more information on Moka & Co, visit their Instagram @mokacocoffee.
