Local brewery Eastern Market Brewing Co (EMBC) has announced plans to build a new self-serve tap house named Elephant & Co. in the old location of Founders Detroit, according to Detroit News.
Located in the heart of Detroit, EMBC is a community-focused brewery building a refreshing place for locals and visitors to gather for a cold one. The new tap house, Elephant & Co., will feature a dozen self-served taps and a variety of Detroit-style pizzas on the menu.
Set to debut in 2024, Elephant & Co. is located at 465 Charlotte St., where the former Founders Detroit taproom was. During the day, Elephant & Co. is a neighborhood cafe that serves coffee roasted on site and vegan donuts from EMBC’s Dooped Donut brand. Meanwhile, those looking for something more substantial can explore a menu featuring various Detroit-style pizzas. Elephant & Co. will also start a new trend in Michigan with their pizza delivery that includes beer straight from the brewery.
“The name ‘Elephant & Co.’ is an ode to where it all started, with our elephant logo in Eastern Market, while ‘& Co.’ represents our many other brands. Charlotte Street will be a showcase for our beer, as well as our offerings beyond beer,” Managing Partner of EMBC Dayne Bartscht said in a press release.
Currently, EMBC is waiting on their state and federal brewing permits for the Charlotte Street location. The company plans to open additional locations throughout the state to create a hub-and-spoke network for EMBC products. This expansion includes the rebranding of the company’s existing Royal Oak location, Lincoln Tap, as an “Elephant & Co.”
“We look forward to delivering meaningful connections and contributing positively to Midtown’s vibrant community,” VP of Sales & Marketing Pauline Knighton-Prueter said in the press release.
