A new Mexican restaurant from an experienced chef is coming to Southwest Detroit.

Tacos Wuey Detroit is planned for 3970 West Vernor Highway in a space formerly occupied by a restaurant called El Coma, Eater Detroit reports.

The restaurant will feature a rotating selection of tacos, according to the news outlet. Customers can also expect unique snacks like guacamole topped with chicharrones. The restaurant is expected to seat about 40 people, with a casual and friendly vibe.

The new concept comes from Chef Eddie Vargas and his father Jose. Chef Vargas is no stranger to the culinary scene, with experience that includes a catering company called Izquitl and the El Parian hospitality group. He has hosted pop-up dining experiences and special events.

Vargas told What Now Detroit they are targeting an April 2025 opening for Tacos Wuey Detroit.
