Locals of Howell are promising a new destination for books, coffee and community.
Oliver & Co. Bookstore is coming to the city’s downtown at 212 S Michigan Avenue this year. Along with books for all ages, a cafe will be inside serving coffees, pastries, cinnamon rolls and bagels. Co-owner Stephanie Perrin told What Now Detroit the opening date is planned for around the end of May, pending final renovations.
The idea for the book shop came about when Stephanie’s husband, Seth, became tired of working a business administration job and wanted to fulfill his dream of opening a store. This will have books of many genres, with the goal of welcoming to those who want a quick coffee or pastry while in the downtown area.
“It’s not just our bookstore, it will be the town’s bookstore,” Stephanie said. She added if they do not have a book a customer wants, it can still be ordered.
Along with the books and treats, the Perrins plan on having tchotchkes around the store. These will be fun little nic-nacks for purchase of all different themes. They are designing the space to have a cozy vibe for book lovers.
The bookstore and cafe will be near the intersection of W Sibley Street, close to the Collective Howell event venue. Many of Howell’s restaurants and shops are just north of the address on Grand River Avenue. As there is not a bookstore in the downtown area, this will be the only one of its kind.
“The outpouring of support and phone calls, it’s heart warming,” Stephanie said.
Stephanie said the hours of the new bookstore are to be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. most days. They two expect many who have just dropped their children off at school or those coming from work to stop by regularly. For more information on Oliver & Co., visit their Facebook page.
