Portillo’s is joining an upcoming development in Canton on the same lot where a Chick-fil-A restaurant has just been proposed. The new development will contain two fast-food restaurants, a Top Golf, and a four-story hotel. The Portillo’s will be located on the site north of Ford Rd between Interstate 275 and Lotz Road, next to which a Chick-fil-A will be built.

We recently reported Portillo’s opening its second Michigan location in Livonia. The Chicago-based hot dog chain is famous for Italian beef, burgers, salads, Chicago-style hot dogs, cheesy fries, and chocolate cake. Owned and operated by Portillo’s Restaurant Group, Inc., the chain built its first Michigan restaurant in 2021 in Sterling Heights, followed by Livonia. Canton will be the chain’s third restaurant in Michigan.

The Canton Planning Commission reviewed two applications regarding the development. The first was a conditional rezoning request for the section of the property where the two restaurants will be built. The request demands to change zoning to C-3, Regional Commercial and Central Business District Overlay. The second application sought approval of a PDD for the entire site.

There are concerns regarding potential traffic impact, especially with the ongoing design of the Ford Road boulevard project. The commission also expressed concerns over the single-entrance design submitted in the plans.
