Sherman’s Dairy Bar, a beloved local spot known for its generous scoops and nostalgic charm, has rebranded under new ownership and a fresh name: Sherman’s of South Haven.
The ice cream parlor, located at 1601 Phoenix Street, is now operated by Mike Schimanski, who also owns Oink’s Dutch Treat in nearby New Buffalo.
“It’s an iconic ice cream shop, and to not have it still be part of this community, it would be a loss,” Schimanski told What Now.
The shop reopened in mid-April with plans for future updates, including the return of indoor dining, though specific details have yet to be announced. A new logo featuring the iconic cow hints at the beginning of a new chapter.
Despite the rebrand, the parlor will still serve the same beloved Hudsonville Ice Cream it’s dished out for more than 60 years while the supply lasts. Fans of the original shop can rest easy—big portions are here to stay, Schimanski told What Now.
“This place is unique in that they serve a huge portion size,” Schimanski said. “Our double – most other places, it would be considered a quadruple scoop.”
What Now reached out to Hudsonville Ice Cream to confirm whether they plan to continue working with Schimanski once the current supply runs out, but has not yet received a response.
With more than 30 flavors, including dairy-free Raspberry Sorbet, the menu offers something for everyone. Classics like Chocolate, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Cookie Dough sit alongside Sherman originals such as Grasshopper, Blue Moon, and Mac Fudge. And for indecisive ice cream lovers, the shop offers a flight of six sample scoops.
Sherman’s of South Haven may have a new name and owner, but its legacy—and scoops—remain just as sweet.
