A new sushi and bistro concept is set to arrive on the west side of the state very soon.

From social media conversations, a new concept called Oya Sushi is rumored to be opening at 5585 Gull Road #106 in Kalamazoo. This will be an Asian bistro along with serving sushi. Owner May Thu Kyaw has not announced an opening date.

Locals have noticed the “Coming soon” sign in the window as of recently. In a recent post, those in the comments have been expressing excitement about the project. This is a commercial stretch of the city near many apartments.

A recent report from WRKR noted the project is expected to open within the next few months. When What Now Detroit reached out to Kyaw, we were told there is no opening date yet. This part of Kalamazoo already has sushi options such as Ten Ten Buffet Grill & Sushi on Gull Road.

Oya Sushi will be joining other restaurants in the plaza on Gull Road including Mochinut Kalamazoo and Jimmy John’s. Chains nearby include Starbucks, Burger King and McDonald’s. The address was formerly Two Fellas Grill, which is now at Western Michigan University.

The restaurant has no social media or website set up at this time.
