One of MSU students’ all-time favorites is coming back to Michigan State University. The Roost, which closed as the Union food court shut down in February 2023 due to a mass shooting, is set to reopen in the International Center’s Crossroads food court in January 2024.
Meanwhile, the Union food court will remain closed through the 2023-2024 academic year, although the Union itself reopened on April 3 of this year. The university officials stated that they’d like to remodel the food court before opening it back up to the students.
Gina Keilen, Associate Director of Retail Dining, said that students have expressed how much they missed having The Roost. Keilen expects that the return of The Roost will help cut down the lines at Subway, Panda Express, and Woody’s Oasis locations in the International Center’s food court.
Staff who were previously employed at The Roost location in the Union food court were moved to other operations throughout Culinary Services but will return once the new The Roost opens in the International Center.
MSU is also planning to add another food vendor, Sparty’s mini-market. The campus website indicates the new business will also open in January 2024.
