A new taqueria is coming to the streets of Howell this fall.

The owners of Tin Tusks Taqueria have been taking to social media to announce their new restaurant at 112 S Walnut Street, which is set to be an October opening. This will be going at the Alley District in downtown Howell, and it will also have outdoor seating. Right now, a “coming soon” sign is up in front of the business.

Tin Tusks is described as a taqueria with bold flavors. It will offer street tacos and burrito bowls with special-made sauces. There is also an emphasis on carryout with the Alley District being a high foot traffic area.Owner Stephanie Tedman told What Now Detroit there is not an exact date of opening as there is construction and approvals that still need to happen. The building is being completely gutted, which is taking longer than previously expected. It is going in right next to Howell’s Mainstreet Winery.

“I had been looking for a way to contribute to the community,” Tedman said.

Tedman has lived in the community for a while, and her family lineage goes back to the founding of Howell. She found the location and knew it would be a great fit for the new restaurant. For the theming, she wanted to stay true to Elephant Alley which has a unique history in Howell, along with incorporating 80s music and movies.

The new establishment will also be across the street from restaurants like Gus’s Carryout Howell and Mark’s Midtown Cooney Cafe. Those looking for the new business will just need to find a street sign that says “Elephant Alley.”

One of the main reasons Tedman wanted to set up the restaurant was to fill a market for takeout. As she is preparing for opening, the team will continue to experiment with the menu which will have a range of Mexican dishes.
