The owner of Shawarma Grill has plans for a recently closed storefront in the suburb.

From Detroit Free Press, Zao Jun Sushi has closed at 6608 Telegraph Road, soon to be replaced by a new Mediterranean concept from Ziad Battah. It will be called TAMAR Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, and is set to bring both Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes. Battah told What Now Detroit he is hoping to open in six-to-eight weeks.

Zao Jun Sushi officially closed their doors on Nov. 17. It has been in the Bloomfield Plaza with Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace since 2019. Despite the closure, Zao Jun’s owners will relocate the restaurant to a new location that will be announced. The owners also manage Adachi in Birmingham.

For the new restaurant, Battah will serve fusion dishes, with American, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern themes. Battah has not released what the menu items will be, but he has an executive chef who he is working with to construct the menu.

“There’s going to be some nice stuff,” Battah said.

Battah owns Shawarma Grill at 29555 Northwestern Highway in Southfield. His restaurant is a fast-casual concept, and he wanted to open a sit-down spot for a couple years. Inside, there will be full seating and live music.

Prior to opening, staff are currently working to get permits and approvals from the Health Department. Battah will release more details on the opening date in the coming weeks.
