A longtime local favorite retailer store, Heart of Michigan, located in Downtown Howell, Michigan, has announced its closure. After serving the community for 15 years, the store’s owners announced its closure in a social media post. The store is going to shutter its operations on January 31 or soon after.

Heart of Michigan Announces Closure as Owners Plan Retirement

Heart of Michigan, a downtown retailer located at 203 W Grand River Ave, Howell, MI, is well-known for celebrating Michigan-made products. The store will close its brick-and-mortar location on January 31 as owners Karen and John Wing retire after 15 years in business.

The store offers a variety of items, including Better Made snacks and Sanders treats, exclusive Michigan signs, apparel, wine, Faygo pop, scented candles, Michigan-made ice cream, and more.

The owners of the store, Karen and John Wing, shared the heartbreaking news of closure on social media. They wrote, “After 15 wonderful years, Heart of Michigan will be closing our doors on January 31st as we begin our retirement.”

In the post, the couple shared an emotional note and shared that the store first opened more than a decade ago to highlight Michigan’s culture, craftsmanship, and locally made goods. Over the years, the store became a fixture of the downtown district, working closely with small businesses and vendors across the state to showcase Michigan-made products.

They extended a note of gratitude towards the community and said, “We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the kindness you’ve shown us and the opportunities you’ve given us. We are equally grateful to the incredible vendors and small businesses across the state who allowed us to showcase their Michigan-made treasures.”

Celebrates Final Weeks with Storewide Discounts

As the store is wrapping up its business, it will hold a final sale beginning January 6, featuring discounted merchandise and weekly prize opportunities. The last day of business will be January 31, or sooner if the remaining inventory sells out.

“Although we have sold our brick-and-mortar storefront, we are hoping to find someone to carry on with the Heart of Michigan online business and the pasty business. If you know of anyone who would be interested in either of these opportunities, please reach out to us,” added the owners of the store.

Between now and the store’s closing date, the owners invite customers to visit one last time, reconnect, and take part in the final sale.

Heart of Michigan will officially cease operations at the end of January, closing a chapter on a locally rooted business that spent 15 years promoting Michigan pride through retail.
