Bonsai Hibachi and Sushi, located at 4849 Sweetwater Blvd Suite A, Sugar Land, TX 77479, is already creating a buzz in the community. Confirmed by Owner Vitcha Janthrakat, the restaurant has experienced a highly successful first month, receiving an abundance of positive feedback from delighted customers.

Janthrakat explains the choice of Sugar Land as their new location, “We chose Sugar Land as our second restaurant location due to the absence of a Japanese Steakhouse (Hibachi) in the area and to cater to the significant Muslim population by offering Halal meat.” This strategic decision has proven fruitful, drawing in a diverse clientele eager to experience authentic Japanese cuisine in their neighborhood.

Bonsai Hibachi and Sushi has its roots in Copperfield, where the first Bonsai Fusion Japanese Steakhouse opened in September 2007. “We began offering Halal meat in 2009,” Janthrakat recalls. “The business was steady until the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. To adapt, we introduced special to-go options, making our food more affordable and ensuring customers could enjoy the same restaurant-quality experience at home.” The use of social media played a crucial role in spreading the word about their Halal offerings, significantly boosting their visibility and reputation.

Despite not currently residing in Sugar Land, Janthrakat expresses a deep fondness for the area. “I absolutely love it here. The people are genuinely kind, and it’s a safe and welcoming community. I have plans to move here in the future,” he shares. The Sugar Land location is their second, with the original in Copperfield, near Highway 6 and 290. Looking ahead, there are plans for further expansion in the Houston metro area and potentially Dallas.

Janthrakat, who has been a chef for over 20 years, brings a wealth of experience to the table. “Growing up in Thailand, I was exposed to a wide variety of flavors, techniques, and ingredients at an early age which sparked a deep appreciation and curiosity for cooking. I started my journey in Japanese cuisine 20 years ago while working at a sushi bar in Ohio,” he explains. Partnering with Marcus, who has over 25 years of experience in the Japanese restaurant industry, they both share a strong passion for Japanese culinary traditions.

The menu at Bonsai Hibachi and Sushi boasts an array of popular items, including Hibachi dishes like Rib-eye Steak, Filet Mignon, and Teriyaki Chicken, as well as sushi rolls such as the Spicy Philly Cheese Steak roll and Super Crunchy roll. The kitchen also offers Gyoza, Spring Rolls, Japanese fried rice, and Yaki Udon noodles. The restaurant spans 3,764 square feet and can seat up to 120 guests, providing a spacious yet intimate dining experience.

With its unique offerings and commitment to quality, Bonsai Hibachi and Sushi is poised to become a staple in the Sugar Land dining scene.
