A new dining destination with a purpose is coming to downtown Willis. Buttermilk Cafe, a full-service concept by Co-Owners David and Sonya Kerr, has officially been permitted for 302 N Danville St. The upcoming restaurant is part of the Buttermilk Gives Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Christian family foundation that exists to support charitable organizations already making a difference.
According to the permit on file, the project will involve a $900,000 renovation to join existing metal buildings and transform them into a thoughtfully designed restaurant and kitchen space. Once complete, Buttermilk Cafe promises more than just great food—it aims to be a beautiful gathering space that leaves “a powerful and lasting impact.”
On their official website, the Kerrs describe the concept as “Elevated Casual Dining” featuring fresh and surprising dishes, an in-house bakery, an espresso bar, and even an afternoon high tea service available by reservation. Beyond food, Buttermilk Cafe will double as a vibrant venue for public and private events including weddings, receptions, and meetings. A full calendar of classes, ranging from culinary and gardening to singing, is also planned.
What truly sets the concept apart is its heart: a “Giving Culture” that emphasizes supporting nonprofit partners and inviting the community into that mission. With this blend of hospitality and philanthropy, Buttermilk Cafe is setting itself up to be more than a restaurant—it’s a movement rooted in generosity and connection.
The cafe is projected fo an opening in Summer 2025.
