Honey Art Cafe Sets Final Closure
Honey Art Cafe, a popular cafe in the Shepherd neighborhood, will close its doors on August 24. The co-owners, Lulu and Lin, shared the news of the closure with their followers on Instagram. “We are saying goodbye to the beautiful murals and art space, packing up, and moving to a new location in the heights,” they wrote in the post.
Lulu and Lin launched Honey Art Cafe in 2016, starting out in a tiny 150-square-foot office space. Lulu and Lin, also best friends, worked hard selling art and teaching classes to build their dream cafe. Over the past decade or so, they toiled and pushed through pandemic shutdowns, floods, freezes, endless road work, and landlord issues.
In addition to desserts and beverages, Honey Art Cafe is known for organizing DIY projects and instructor-led art classes. Lulu and Lin expressed gratitude to all who celebrated creativity and special occasions with them.
They invited patrons to visit the cafe to make art, get a drink, and enjoy the murals for one last time before the final day.
Future Plans
Lin shared that the cafe’s lease ends in August. For her, it’s time to take a bold step and move into a new space. She hopes to reinvent Honey Art Cafe at its new home in The Heights. Lin revealed that the name of the new place remains unchanged.
Lulu will take a step back to focus on being a mother. After having a daughter a few years ago, Lulu found the cafe’s schedule left little room for life outside of work. Lulu is a certified architect and will pursue the same in the near future.
Lin said they took some time this year to reflect on the vision they had for the cafe’s future. The owners decided to close the current chapter to make room for something new.
Though Lin admits to some nerves, she’s excited to reimagine her dream cafe in a fresh space. The new space may be a little different, but it will carry the same values as the original. It will be a place where people can create regardless of age or experience.
