Chef Mary Cuclis will open her first storefront, Kriti Kitchen, after serving Houston-area residents a Greek-focused menu through her catering company. Cuclis started Kriti Cooking and Catering more than two years ago, offering pickup for weekly prepared meals.
Kriti Kitchen will offer brunch and lunch options at the cafe and will continue to offer heat-and-eat meals. “When you heat them in your home, they are heated up to how they are supposed to be, so they’re not dry or overcooked,” Cuclis explained.
Kriti Kitchen will offer indoor seating, as well as a small patio to enjoy menu options. Her family is from Crete, so the menu will be Greek-focused. “It’s going to be a lot about food that I would eat with my family in Crete.” Some options include an omelet featuring traditional spanakopita ingredients and salads, including the traditional Greek salad.
Diners can also enjoy small bites of a variety of Greek foods with four different mezze platters. “In Greece, when you go out to eat, you get a ton of different stuff, so you can try a bunch of different things,” Cuclis told What Now Houston.
Wraps and several entree options will be available, as well. Diners can purchase beer and wine, including Greek varietals, to enjoy at the cafe or to take home with their prepared meals.
“It should be a fun little space. I’m excited to show people a more home-style Greek food. I use a lot of fresh, local ingredients. I’m a big fan of local farmers.” Cuclis hopes to open Kriti Kitchen to the public before New Year’s at 4010 Bissonnet St., Houston, TX 77005.
