Honest Mary’s is on an upswing! The Austin-born healthy dining option opened its first Houston location in the River Oaks shopping center a few weeks ago. Now, the team behind the brand is announcing a second location coming to Houston. According to a press release, Honest Mary’s second Greater Houston area eatery is expected to open in the new Greenside development at 1085 Gessner Rd in the fall of 2026.

“Situated north of Memorial City Mall at 1085 Gessner Rd., the project sits at the crossroads of the Memorial City and Spring Branch communities,” the press release reads.

“Greenside will blend restaurants and retail with creative office space, alongside play lawns and pond overlooks. Honest Mary’s will begin buildout this spring with Cedar Street Creative.”

Honest Mary’s is run by CEO Nelson Monteith and his partner, COO Andrew Wiseheart.

“Founded in 2017 by Monteith and his wife, Mary, Honest Mary’s addresses a hole in the market for on-the-go options that are healthy, fast, and made from scratch,” the press release explains.

“The concept’s dedication to helping people live their best lives through nourishing food, genuine hospitality, and a strong commitment to community quickly resonated, leading to four locations across Austin.”

What Now Houston spoke with Monteith about the first Honest Mary’s Houston location opening.

“We want to be a place where customers can trust what they’re eating, that it is genuinely life-giving, and that shows up in our food standards that we abide by,” Monteith said.

Now embarking on bringing Honest Mary’s to the Greenside development, the Houston native holds a lot of excitement about the brand’s continued growth.

“We’ve been so thankful and moved by the reception in Houston these first few months,” Monteith said.

“The sheer amount of people who have turned out, the positive reviews of the food, the space and our team, and all the people who are already visiting multiple times a week, is really fun. It’s been a magical opening.”

This quick-service concept offers what Monteith calls “life-giving, feel-good food.”

The Greenside menu will be consistent with existing Honest Mary’s locations.

Honest Mary’s offers six signature bowls, one of which is a seasonal rotating bowl.

The fresh and healthy dining option gives a new meaning to BYOB, with its build-your-own-bowl option. Guests will have the option to create fully customizable bowls, starting with a base, add in a protein, top that with their option of a plethora of veggies and a variety of toppings and sauces, and you’re out the door and on the way to a “life-giving” day.

While the bowl concept is not new, the real healthy additions just may be. You’re not going to get any artificial ingredients, no refined sugars, and no meat loaded with hormones. According to its website, Honets Mary’s customers will instead receive items from the Dirty Dozen Organic list, wild-caught tuna, and seed oil substitutions.

“We’ve felt so much love from Houston already,” says Wiseheart.

“Opening at Greenside lets us serve more of the Memorial-area community—nearby residents and the surrounding office corridor. Whether someone’s grabbing a bowl or ordering catering for a meeting, they’ll get the same made-from-scratch food and people-first hospitality that’s core to Honest Mary’s.”

The second Honest Mary’s to come to the Greater Houston community is slated to open in the new Greenside development at 1085 Gessner Rd this fall.
