Kim Son, Houston’s longtime Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant, is closing after more than four decades in business. The restaurant will serve its final dinner on October 12. The Kim Son family cited the I-45 expansion project as the reason behind this difficult decision.

Kim Son to Close Jefferson Street Location After 43 Years

Kim Son, located on Jefferson St, has served Houston diners since 1982. The Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant will serve its final dinner on October 12. The restaurant announced the closure on social media, citing the I-45 expansion project.

Known for its bold Asian flavors, the menu features spring rolls, noodle soups, and a variety of meat and seafood dishes.

The Kim Son family shared a heartfelt message on Facebook: “After serving the Houston community for over four decades, Kim Son Jefferson will be saying goodbye on October 12, 2025, due to the I-45 expansion project. Our journey began at Kim Son on Pease St. in 1982 and continued on Jefferson since 1993. Our restaurant has been a place for families, celebrations, and countless shared meals.”

The post further read, “From cheering on the Rockets, Astros, and Texans to gathering for holidays and special occasions, every moment with you has meant so much.”

Overwhelming Responses From the Houston Community

Following the announcement, loyal customers flooded the post with memories and well wishes for the restaurant’s future. The restaurant expressed its gratitude for the community’s support over the years.

“We’re deeply grateful to our loyal guests, staff, and neighbors who made every visit feel like home. Your support and love have meant the world to us. Though our doors may close, the memories and flavors will live on in our hearts,” said the restaurant.

In the comments, one customer wrote, “A nearly 50-year-old business that brought hundreds of thousands of people together over food and culture — replaced with highway expansion. This stings; I’ll be stopping by a couple more times before the 12th.”

While another loyal customer wrote, “We are going to miss Kim Son so much. We have been going there for over 30 years, with the flickering lights at the first location, and we were just there again this past weekend. It was our family’s go-to. We will miss you, but wish the family all the best.”

Catering Services to Continue Through 2025

As Kim Son prepares to close, the family expressed hope about returning to the Houston dining scene in the future. The restaurant’s catering and wedding services at the Jefferson location will continue through the end of 2025.

The restaurant added, “Our catering and wedding services at Jefferson will remain active through the end of 2025, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate life’s special moments with you.”

Meanwhile, Kim Son’s Bellaire Boulevard location will remain open. The Jefferson location’s closure marks the end of a 43-year run in Houston’s dining scene. For more than four decades, Kim Son has been a gathering place for locals to enjoy authentic Asian cuisine.
