Jaquay’s is a come-as-you-are, leave full and happy type of establishment that’s drawn people from all over Texas to its flagship location in Dickson. The chicken and waffles spot is now embarking on a new culinary venture, opening a second location in downtown Houston at the beginning of November.
According to this recent Facebook post, Jaquay’s will open its second location at 1111 Prairie St.
“Great customer service, family atmosphere, good music, and quality food,” owner Sheldon Isaac said of the concept.
In a conversation with What Now Houston, Isaac shared his vision for the new location, which he confirmed is currently under construction, and his plan to continue his goal of providing good Cajun-seasoned food cooked with a whole lot of love.
“I’m very big on taste and flavor,” Isaac said. “The number one thing is seasoning. A lot of people say our food is very well seasoned all the way to the bone.”
And for the beloved and state-wide appreciated chicken and waffles joint, that is key. The waffles are crisp, and the chicken is seasoned and fresh. The eatery uses a unique “drizzle” on its waffles that is so well matched that many people find that there is no need to add syrup on top of a stack.
“We’ve been open for six years now, and I haven’t had anybody return their food, and if they have complained, they kept it themselves,” Isaac said with a chuckle.
The new downtown Houston Prairie Street location offers enough space to grow, while creating an intimacy that nurtures the brand’s natural, loving style of service.
“We go out of our way to make sure we satisfy our customers, the best we can, and we keep our menu pretty simple,” Isaac added.
While there isn’t enough space at the new location for a bar, and the eatery will not be selling alcohol in the near future, Jaquay’s will provide complimentary wine to its customers on occasions and work with a mobile bartender to offer an upscale yet relaxed nightlife experience.
This location will stay open later than its flagship counterpart, allowing for events and weekend happenings. With music, TV, and the occasional live band, Jaquay’s is more than your run-of-the-mill chicken and waffles eatery; it’s set to be a one-of-a-kind Houston dining experience.
“We have a sign in our other location that says ‘good vibes’ that we hang up, and that’s what we’re looking for, just positivity,” Isaac shared of the new opening.
The owner intends to start off with some soft openings in early November before throwing a grand opening around the holidays. Check out Jaquay’s social media pages to stay up to date on the grand opening and Jaquay’s happenings in Houston.
“Come with an appetite,” Isaac said.
