A new boba tea shop is being planned for Spring. Construction on the new King Tea at 501 Sawdust Rd., Ste. G in Spring recently got underway. King Tea co-owner Alex Vuong told What Now Houston they hope to open sometime this spring.

King Tea will offer a variety of boba, or tapioca, drinks. “It could be a fruit drink. It could be a coffee drink, but the difference is there is a material, tapioca, or starch if you will, that turns into a ball,” Vuong explained. “It’s a tapioca, gelatin-like material. We add that onto our drinks.” The tapioca adds to the flavor.

Some flavors include green tea and black tea for a healthier option, fruit, and coffee flavors, as well. The drinks will be the menu’s main offering, so there won’t be any food items at first. “We are trying to introduce something from the Asian culture, a snack from Vietnam. We are going to test it out by providing it for free.” Vuong did not give specifics about the snack, but if customers enjoy it, the snack could become a permanent fixture on the menu.

The Spring location will be the first for the King Tea brand. Vuong said this type of tea shop is common in Houston’s Chinatown area, but not in the Spring area. “We would like to be one of the first to provide it up in the northern region of Houston,” Vuong said. “We’ll try to open up the community to something that’s offered on the other side of the world.”
