A longtime Houston barbecue favorite is set to close this month. Brett’s BBQ Shop announced its closure via social media post. In the post, the restaurant cited financial challenges, rising rent and labor costs, and slow business growth as the reasons behind the decision.

Brett’s BBQ Shop to close due to rising costs

Brett’s BBQ Shop has been a local favorite in Katy’s community for the last 7 years. The restaurant is known for its pork ribs, burnt ends, chopped brisket sandwiches, and brisket burgers.

The restaurant shared an official statement about the closing through a post on Facebook. “Sunday, December 28, will be our last day of regular service,” said the restaurant.

In the post, the restaurant owner explained that due to “continuously rising food and labor costs, operational expenses, and rent combined with sharply declining foot traffic, [the restaurant] has made continued operation unsustainable, despite every effort to adapt.”

With a heavy heart, the owner further said, “Surviving 2020 felt like a godsend, and we moved forward with confidence toward the future Katy Boardwalk District. Closing now is the hardest choice we have ever made, but it is the responsible one. And as the saying goes, sometimes the comeback is bigger than the fall.”

The restaurant owners, Brett and Jacqueline, thanked the community for its support during challenging times.

Barbecue spot to continue catering services

Even though the restaurant is closing its physical location on Kingsland Blvd, the BBQ shop remains hopeful and will continue its catering services. The restaurant also plans to participate in the Houston Rodeo Cookoff.

“Beauty, The Beast & The Rodeo Pit will enjoy some time off at their well-earned vacation property,” added the post.

For its final month, the restaurant will host regular hours from December 10 to December 14 and from December 17 to December 21. On Christmas Eve, the restaurant will remain open from 11 am to 4 pm for Christmas order pickups.

The restaurant will remain closed on Christmas and the day after Christmas. On December 27, the restaurant will be operational from 11 am to 9 pm. The restaurant will operate from 11 am to 7 pm on December 28.

As Brett’s BBQ Shop is wrapping up its final chapter at Kingsland Blvd, the team hopes to see the community through the doors one more time.
