Matari Coffee is working toward bringing the Greater Houston community an elevated coffee experience. The Yemeni Specialty-Grade Coffee brand is boiling into the Houston market with the opening of its first location in the area at 21788 Katy Freeway, Suite No. 400.

According to a recent state filing, construction on the new Katy Matari Coffee is slated to start in December and is expected to wrap up by mid-February 2026. Franchisee Raheel Suria will run the expansion of the coffee house in the Houston market. Suria shared with What Now Houston that he intends to open the first Matari Coffee location in Houston in March 2026.

“I’m excited about the brand. I hope that Houston likes it, appreciates it, and gives us the opportunity to go and expand the brand all over Houston,” Suria said.

The plan is to expand Matari Coffee all over Houston after opening a couple of them to gauge interest.

“Cafes are getting pretty big here in Houston. So, I just wanted to kind of get into that space and provide Houston with definitely something better than what Houston has today in terms of ambience and how the overall concept looks,” Suria said.

Matari Coffee was founded by Sadeq Almatari in 2002. Its flagship location is in Michigan, but the specialty coffee brand has expanded to several other states and Canada since its inception. What sets the coffee brand apart is its origins.

“One of the most debated subjects is the origin of coffee. The earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking goes back to the 15th century in Yemen,” the Matari Coffee website reads.

“While we cannot speak for the coffee of the early centuries, we will let our Matari coffee speak for itself. Its rich taste and texture remain as authentic as the first cup brewed.”

The Yemeni coffee comes straight from Bani Matar, which is renowned for producing the finest types of Yemeni coffee. Now Suria is working to bring the rich history in each cup of Matari Coffee to the streets of Houston.

“It’s a high-quality product at a very decent and affordable price,” Suria said.

The Matari Coffee menu features a multitude of espresso, chai, and special drip options. Items like the Iced Pistachio Latte and the Yemni Latte are highlights. In addition, the roaster and cafe offers mojitos in a variety of flavors, and pastries ranging from milk cakes to honeycomb.

“All of their products, from quality to price to presentation, I think anything that you try, you can’t go wrong and you won’t be disappointed,” Suria said.

Besides the delicious drinks and treats, the franchisee said the ambience beckons customers.

“When I visited Matari, I really liked the ambience,” he said.

“I like that space, I like the cafe environment. I haven’t come across a cafe that has a nice environment and an elevated product, in terms of presentation.”

Check out the ambience, drink, and food options yourself when the new Matari Coffee debuts in the Greater Houston area at 21788 Katy Freeway, Suite No. 400, in March 2026.
