Medium Rare, the steakhouse chain known for its straightforward and affordable steak dinners, is set to open a new location at 3201 Louisiana St. This expansion into the Houston market follows the success of their existing locations in the Washington, D.C. area and a recent opening in New Orleans.

Founded in 2011 in Washington, D.C. by chef and restaurateur Mark Bucher, Medium Rare’s unique dining approach is centered around a prix-fixe menu priced at $28.95. This offering includes bread, a green salad, and their signature steak frites – a coulotte steak served with a rich Bordelaise-style sauce alongside hand-cut fries. For those preferring a vegetarian option, the steak can be substituted with a grilled portobello mushroom topped with a flavorful roasted red pepper sauce. The beverage selection is intentionally concise, featuring a choice of five red wines, four draft beers, three white wines, and a sparkling wine option. Additionally, diners can indulge in one of five dessert choices, each available for $12.

The restaurant’s concept also includes a weekend brunch with more varied options, including eggs Benedict with steak and portobello mushroom hash, French toast and sausage, and steak and eggs.

One of the key advantages of Medium Rare’s business model is its focus on reducing food waste and serving diners efficiently. The simple menu allows for quicker service and less waste, enabling guests to enjoy a meal and leave within an hour. This efficiency has been a significant factor in the success and expansion of the brand.

Apart from its culinary offerings, Medium Rare is noted for its charitable endeavors. The restaurant’s “Feed the Fridge” program collaborates with restaurants to stock refrigerators with free meals for those in need. This initiative has been implemented in numerous locations, including schools, community centers, and other sites in the D.C. area.

As reported by CultureMap Houston, citizens of The Bayou City will soon be sinking their teeth into Bucher’s steak experience come Spring 2024.
