Street to Kitchen, Houston’s acclaimed “unapologetically Thai” restaurant, is preparing for a big move. Helmed by James Beard Award-winner for Best Chef: Texas, Chef Benchawan Jabthong Painter, also known as “Chef G,” and her husband and partner Graham Painter, the restaurant is set to relocate to The Plant in Second Ward at 3401 Harrisburg Blvd.
The relocation was announced by Concept Neighborhood, the Houston-based real estate investment, development, and management company, which is championing the authentic, walkable neighborhood of The Plant in Second Ward. The relocation will see Street to Kitchen occupying a 2,800-square-foot space, allowing it to serve 100 guests – almost triple the capacity of its current space. The move will also include an expanded beverage program and outdoor patio area.
The move to The Plant in Second Ward will position Street to Kitchen alongside other esteemed establishments, adding to the growing vibrancy of the area. In addition to the relocation, the Painters have recently partnered in the launch of a new concept, The Preserve, in May and have plans for a third concept in the future.
“We want to bring you into Bangkok when you enter, and leave the State of Texas,” Graham Painter shared with What Now Houston. This ethos of authenticity is reflected in their dishes which range from Thai omelets, currently served on Saturdays at the Urban Harvest Farmers Market, to special entrees like tiger cry wagyu ribeye and black truffle crab curry.
Alongside the relocation, the Painters are also planning on elevating their culinary offerings. They plan to retain their signature dishes, but also introduce rotating specials from Chef G on Fridays and Saturdays. “Whiskey and Thai food go well together,” Painter noted, hinting at the inclusion of whiskey cocktails paired with specific dinner entrees in the new menu. The beverage program will also welcome Thai spirits as a new addition.
As for Street to Kitchen, the goal is to ensure a seamless transition between locations, keeping the focus on their unique and flavorful Thai cuisine. Chef G expressed her feelings toward the impending move, “I’m feeling so many emotions right now, but most of all excitement. It is where we were born and where we belong.”
The relocation is targeted for November 2023.
