1928 Cuban Bistro, a restaurant that offers modern takes on Cuban cuisine, is opening a restaurant in Downtown Jacksonville at 501 Riverside Avenue at the former Tossgreen location, according to The Jacksonville Daily Record.
There’s no opening date yet for the 1,460 square foot restaurant, but diners can expect a central location with access to St. Johns Riverwalk and a trolly stop at its doorstep.
1928 Cuban Bistro is owned by Rebecca Gonzalez, a self-described Cuban-American mom of three who opened 1928 Cuban Bistro as a tribute to her abuelo and abuela Mario and Pura Alvarado, whose love of food led Gonzalez on her culinary journey.
The food combines authentic traditional recipes with modern twists to create a menu that combines some of the most loved Cuban dishes with interesting new items.
Traditional items include croquetas, Mami’s sopita de pollo, and Cuban pastries in both sweet and savory varieties. There’s also some new inventions such as La Gordita, an open faced Cuban toast topped with croquetas, avocado, bacon, mozzarella, fried eggs, and chimichurri sauce.
1928 Cuban Bistro also serves a host of traditional and non-traditional beverages from a perfect cafécito and cortadito to café con leche and a dirty chai latte.
When it opens, the downtown location will be the eighth 1928 Cuban Bistro in the Jacksonville area.
